Spring for the Pasadena Showcase House of Design
The opening of the 2026 Pasadena Showcase House for Arts heralds the true beginning of spring for Southern Californians. Now in it’s 61st year, and open now until May 17th, it’s a great way to combine a good time basking in good design—along with cocktails, crafts and culinary delights—with a good cause: the volunteer non-profit raises money to fund local music programs and support arts education in Southern California.

This year’s event takes place at the Baldwin Oaks Estate, a historic, two-acre property located just off Foothill Road in Arcadia. Originally designed in 1907, the two-story cedar shingled home was built during the height of the Arts & Crafts movement and was once owned by Clara Baldwin Stocker, the glamorous eldest daughter of California pioneer Elias “Lucky” Baldwin.

Every detail, from the home’s circular driveway canopied by lush oak trees, to its wraparound porch and imposing grand foyer that is dominated by an oak staircase and the public rooms which are topped by oak beams and hand-finished paneling, conjures up the life of the charismatic woman, christened the “Diamond Princess” as much for her glittering style as for her extravagant jewels, who embraced elegance and demanded comfort.

Under the supervision of The Art of Room Design’s Maria Videla-Juniel and Rachel Duarte Design Studio’s Rachel Duarte, those themes, reinforced by a color scheme from Dunn-Edwards, underline the cohensive work of the 30 interior and landscape designers whose designs are featured: from the kitchen with its vivid green pantry, designed by Billman Design’s Karen Billman, with its impeccable alder cabinetry, unlacquered brass accents and the pop-up outlets on the island; the Modern Bohemian bedroom, courtesy of Ben Nichols Workshop, swathed in a soothing block print that cocoons the room at night; House of Pontovi‘s Midnight Garden dining room, with its Art Deco influences, gold-leafed ceiling and custom burl wood table; the soothing color scheme of the thoughtfully-planned laundry and craft room by Barrett Cooke of Arterberry Cooke Architecture with its Fireclay tiles, designed to resemble the graphics of farmland seen from the air; and, Studio Joshua‘s Joshua Praught’s sprawling entertainment room, with its imposing bar and arresting light fixtures, courtesy of Alora x Jason Koharik, Jason Koharik for The Future Perfect, and Liz Oliver Studio.

Other details that caught our eye: the branching legs of the vanity in the powder room designed by Iryna Helmy Interiors; the primary “Arcadian Sanctuary” bedroom’s Gracie handpainted silk emerald wallcovering and the intricate pattern depicted on its coordinating Gracie Tan Arbor draperies, designed by Amorphous Studio; the meditation nook by Rock Zehler, tucked behind the dressing room’s closet off the “Magnolia” bedroom (check out how the door folds back); the playful color sense and arresting tile work in the “Fireplace Suite,” which embraces a Jack and Jill bathroom and bedroom, designed by Jill Romine Interiors; and, the playful “Enchantment Nook” from Jeannine Hattas Wilson and Julie Kennedy of of Hattas Studios, the tiny getaway space we dreamed of as a child. The showcase is open Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am to 5 pm, Friday 9:30 am – 6 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 am to 5 pm.
