“My approach is all about creating functional spaces with a strong point of view—spaces that feel timeless, thoughtfully layered and lived-in, with a unique identity that reflects the people who live there,” says L.A.-based designer Jessica Alpert. “Above all, I want anyone who walks into a home I’ve designed to immediately feel at ease.”

She applied that sensibility inside a 2,500-square-foot builder-grade condo in Beverly Hills for a young executive and native Angeleno who wanted a new home that felt warm, welcoming and not generic. “Having grown up in Beverly Hills, she always knew she wanted her first home to be there and because she travels frequently, it was important that the home feel like a true retreat when she returned—somewhere she could fully unwind and reset,” she recalls. “She was drawn to a home that felt organic and feminine, with a strong emphasis on comfort, livability and easy flow between spaces.”

Being the space was a new build, decor took precedence over renovation, however, the kitchen was in need of a makeover. “One of the main challenges was the kitchen,” Alpert notes. “It originally featured Thermofoil cabinetry, and after exploring ways to work within the existing material, we ultimately decided the best solution was to replace all of the cabinet fronts with paint-grade finishes. This allowed us to completely transform the space and bring it in line with the overall design vision.”

They transformed the all-white residence to a much more moody and cozy home by applying Roman Clay by Portola Paints throughout. “It was a major investment, but it completely transformed the feel of the space and added warmth, depth and a much-needed layer of texture that really elevated the home,” says Alpert. “Because the project is smaller in square footage compared to most of our work, every design decision had to be especially intentional, so, the goal was to create a wow moment in every direction, so nothing felt overlooked.”

When asked how her client felt about the finished result she noted, “She was thrilled and felt we truly exceeded what she imagined was possible for the space—it’s completely unrecognizable from the before. By the end, she was eager for us to wrap up so she could settle in and fully enjoy her new home.”
